Your Social Profiles Can Die Overnight. Your {BLANK} Can't.
Remember this???
On Monday, October 4, 2021, Facebook vanished.
Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger went dark with it — for six to seven hours.
Even "Log in with Facebook" stopped working on other sites.
Downdetector logged over 10 million problem reports, the most it had ever recorded for one outage.
Facebook's own employees couldn't badge into their buildings.
Mark Zuckerberg lost more than $6 billion in net worth that day.
The stock dropped nearly 5%.
But Zuckerberg was fine...
The real damage landed on the small brands and storytellers who counted on Facebook that day to pay the bills, buy groceries and keep a roof over their heads.
Fast forward to Saturday night, January 18, 2025.
TikTok went dark across the entire United States.
Roughly 12 to 14 hours of a blank screen and a message saying the app wasn't available...
Now picture the people whose rent money lives inside those apps.
The coach with every lead sitting in the DMs.
The creator whose whole income is one account.
The shop that only sells through Instagram.
Refreshing. Refreshing. Refreshing…
Maybe that was you.
It was me once.
I lost admin to my own company's Facebook page for about a year and a half.
I contacted Facebook support 8 different ways.
Email. Messages. Ad support...
I even Googled and called several "support numbers"…
No human on the other end.
Good thing we never built the business on it.
Those blackouts weren't glitches...
They were reminders of who holds the keys.

Before I show you what to do about it, three quick announcements 👇🏾
Three Announcements
1| The new jyoungel.com is live.
The first version is finished.
Every essay lives there now, with guides, tools and even books coming soon.
It's my Brand World — my personal stamp on the internet, on ground nobody can log me out of.
(I'll explain what a Brand World is in a minute.)
2| GHOST Stacks is over.
GHOST Stacks set out to take invisible experts from INVISIBLE to IMPOSSIBLE TO IGNORE.
It lived about three months.
Short life. I know...
But here's the truth I had to face:
being invisible was never the whole problem.
Being invisible on land you don't own and control was.
GHOST Stacks could only ever fix half of that.
Which brings me to number three...
3| Welcome to WorldPress.
Same inbox. Bigger promise.
WorldPress teaches you how to build superfans by building worlds they obsess over.
For 20 years, I've been a worldbuilder — the invisible creative behind other companies' brand worlds.
I've helped build and contribute to the worlds of top earners and rising stars at Microsoft, BP, ExxonMobil, M.D. Anderson, Sotheby's and more.
Their audiences leaned in. Almost nobody knew my name.
Now I'm opening my full playbook — and pointing it at you.
You don't have to do anything.
You're already subscribed — that's why this landed in your inbox.
Now, back to those blackouts…
Your Work Probably Lives on Someone Else's Land
Your posts. Your videos. Your ideas. Your client wins.
Years of them, sitting on a platform that can change the rules overnight.
And sometimes nobody even bans you.
Since 2013, I've put 428 video productions on Vimeo alone.
That's not counting the 200+ I've made for other brands since I stopped publishing there in 2019.
Six years of blood, sweat and tears.
Then Vimeo changed its plans and suddenly demanded I pay to keep showing it.
Today it costs me $25 just to get back in and download my own videos.
Ouch…
$25 isn't a lot of money.
It's the fact that with the push of a button, every receipt of the work I put in is out of my reach.
The only way back is pulling out my credit card...
No ban. No appeal. Just a new price — and my work went dark.
So You Should "Just Diversify," Right?
(eyes rolling)
OK. I get it.
The popular fix the gurus sell is to be everywhere — in case one platform acts up.
More platforms.
More consistency.
More backups.
WRONG.
That's just more rented rooms.
Sure, you get "more followers."
But you don't want followers on someone else's platform.
You want fans on YOURS.
Followers are access. A world you own and control is sacred ground.
So the fix isn't another platform.
It's building a world — one place you control, where every platform becomes a door back home.
This is what I call The WORLD Method — here's the crash course.
Two Kinds of Worlds
Every world is one of two types.
1. Brand World — You teach what you know and fans learn how to change their reality.
Think Atomic Habits, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Rich Dad Poor Dad or your own expertise and process.
2. Story-Driven World — You unpack your world and fans immerse themselves to escape their reality.
Think Harry Potter, The Marvel Universe, Forrest Gump or even a true story told as narrative.
Same method. Different delivery.
Five Levels build both 👇🏾
The Five Levels
Level 1: Wire
Build the tech foundation your entire world runs on.
This is your ground.
Your files, your knowledge and your address — somewhere no ban or price change can reach.
In 2023, I fed a custom GPT my full world bible for my story-driven sci-fi world KNOXX.
It jumped from generic guesses and boring sci-fi clichés to 80–90% on target — instantly.
AI with no context gives you AI slop. AI fed your world gives you AI gold.
Which do you want?
Level 2: Obsess
Know your audience deeper than they know themselves.
Here's the part most people miss: your world is NOT ABOUT YOU.
It's about your fans. The people you serve.
WorldPress is NOT about me (even though my name is on it).
It exists for you and everyone else reading this.
That's Obsess — obsessing over your audience so you can serve them better.
It means talking to them.
Building a direct relationship no platform can cut off.
Here's a little secret: if you're really listening, they'll tell you everything you need to help them.
It's the most underrated unlock in worldbuilding.
More on that in future essays...
Level 3: Resonate
Shape a world your audience can instantly become obsessed with.
This is where you lock in your Secret Sauce (your methodology or process) and your backstory with the avatar of your fanbase.
Most brands skip this Level.
It's the part that makes fans feel your world was built for them and nobody else on the planet.
And it's what makes your world too specific to copy.
Pro Tip: I wrote an essay on a quick way to build your avatar — who to obsess over and resonate with. It's gold.
Level 4: Lure
Build the content — called artifacts — that pulls your audience deeper into your world.
Here's the rule:
Those "wasted" years of content and posting?
Not wasted.
Old posts, videos and client work become the artifacts that fill your world.
Nothing gets thrown away.
All 428 of my Vimeo videos will eventually make their way onto my site.
And I can unpack the stories and lessons behind every one — one of them might be the key that unlocks your own world.
Level 5: Disperse
Publish and promote your world, one lure at a time.
Raise your right hand and promise right here — right now ✋🏽:
I will not skip or sleep on this next point.
- Publish inside your world first.
- Then promote it everywhere, pointing back home.
When a platform goes dark, you lose a door.
Not the house.
Simple example:
If you're reading this in your inbox, there's a link at the very top to read it in your browser.
That's this exact rule in practice.
(Yes, I drink my own Kool-Aid.)
There's a lot more to Disperse.
But that's the one thing to start with today.
That Locked Facebook Page
When I lost that page, I only lost a door.
I didn't lose the business.
Because my business was never fully reliant on Facebook.
(Too bad I didn't know this years earlier with Vimeo 🤦🏽♂️)
Picture the next blackout.
The apps go dark.
Your essays, your list and your work are still right where you left them.
That's the whole point of building a world.
You're future-proofing your ideas, your assets and your career — before AI replaces them.
See a Brand World in Action
My new site is my Brand World, built with the five Levels you just read.
Walk around. Read an essay.
It's still young, but you'll see what even a small world can do.
And you'll find a few surprises along the way...
Peace and Love,
J. Young El
P.S. Level 1 is where most people stall, because "tech foundation" sounds harder than it is.
A future essay walks through Wire step by step — exactly how I wired mine.
Watch for it.
(Want a head start? I published an early version of the process right here in my Brand World.)
